About Benjamin and the Lizard Bites Story

Hello! I’m Benjamin

I’ve lost over 100 pounds on a GLP-1 diet, and I built Lizard Bites to share what actually works — real recipes, no hidden sugars, no seed oils.

  • High-protein GLP-1 diet recipes – without hidden sugars, seed oils, or any processed ingredients.
  • I write blog posts about proven GLP-1 diet tips, insights on metabolic health, and resources for dealing with medication side effects.
  • YouTube Videos on low-carb dieting topics for GLP-1 users, and product reviews covering food items and supplements for living healthier.

Lizard Bites as a name comes from the GLP-1 drug class tracing back to a peptide found in Gila Monster “lizard” venom, and “bites” being both lizard and food associated.

My Story

At 48 I had a heart attack and needed two stents. I weighed 454 pounds.

That wasn’t the start of the story. I’d been fighting my weight for decades before it. My grandparents were vegetarian, so plant-based eating was normal to me early — I went vegetarian as a young adult and lost weight, went fully vegan later and did better still. It worked when I was consistent. The problem was always consistency. Business meals, stress, convenience food, and I’d regain it. Then I’d start over. Each cycle got harder. My appetite got louder. Cravings lasted longer. What used to work stopped working.

What I was fighting has a name: metabolic resistance. And a lot of what I was eating was making it worse. When my weight passed what the ER scale could measure, I responded by doubling down on vegan food. What I missed was that most of the processed vegan products I was living on were loaded with seed oils, refined carbohydrates, and additives. Technically plant-based. Metabolically terrible.

I resisted GLP-1 medication for years. I believed weight loss was supposed to come from discipline, and taking a drug felt like admitting I had none. What changed my mind was the cardiovascular data — Wegovy and Ozempic weren’t just producing weight loss, they were reducing cardiac events. With two stents in my chest, that outweighed my pride.

I lost 35 pounds in the first 13 weeks and 50 in the first six months. Then I hit a wall around 65. I came off the medication for two months, which was rough, went back on, and pushed through. I’m down over 100 pounds.

The medication isn’t what this site is about. Wegovy quieted the food noise enough that I could finally follow a plan — but it never told me what to eat. That part I worked out myself, and most of what I found online was either diet-industry recycling or recipes that quietly depended on the exact ingredients that put me in the cath lab.

So I built the framework I needed: high protein, real fiber, whole ingredients, no seed oils, no hidden sugars, nothing processed. Every recipe on Lizard Bites is one I’ve cooked in my own kitchen and eaten on a GLP-1 schedule, with a stomach far less forgiving than it used to be. I write about metabolic health, low-glycemic eating, the hidden sugars sitting in ordinary groceries, and the side effects nobody warns you about. I review the products I actually buy.

I’m not a doctor or a dietitian, and nothing here is medical advice — talk to your prescriber about your medication. What I am is someone who lost over 100 pounds on Wegovy, is keeping it off, and cooks every day for how this actually works.
